Yes, once again I post the slam e-mail to tell you about shows. Does it matter? No. No it doesn't.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Alex Charlambides show. Alex was divine, and the open mic and slam have become real "top-notch."

But we must turn our eyes to the future. This Tuesday, October 11th, come to the Coffeehouse to see none other than Derrick C. Brown (www.brownpoetry.com) c/o Nashville, TN. Derrick is one of the most sought after performance poets around, and certainly one of the best artists I have ever seen. His accomplishments are too many to list, but it bears mentioning that he was on the 2003 Normal Slam Team. We're still not sure how that happened.

And speaking of the future, October should be renamed "Rockandrolltober" because of how really neat it's going to be. The Normal slam breaks from form again and has THREE shows this special month. There is the aforementioned Brown fellow, and then ONE week later, the third Tuesday in October, the 18th, we will have the 2005 national slam champion ANIS MOJGANI. We give special shows to national champions, fyi. Then the 4th Tuesday it's business as usual with funky friend Paulie Lipman from Denver, CO. Rockandrolltober, in effect, y'all.

Shows all start at 7:30. Come early to sign up for the open mic and slam. No theme this time. $3 suggested donation keeps the talent marching through our colorless town.

So brint it, LJ!

HURRAY! The Normal Slam website is up and running!
Sorry it looks so prepackaged. It actually is. My computer is harboring a gigantic virus, so the hard work I put into the site over the summer may be forever lost. Poor Shanny.
Happy webpaging!

If you have an digital shots of any slam ever, comment me, baby.

This is the slam e-mail I sent out. I guess the only difference between that and this, is that on lj I can say "weenis" with less regret. COME TO SHOW!

This coming Tuesday, September 27th, come on down to the Coffeehouse for a nutritious poetry show. Our featured poet is Alex Charalambides (Hair-i-lam-bee-dees) coming all the way from Worcester (Woo-stah), Massachusetts! Alex was on the innovative 2003 Providence, RI team at the National Poetry Slam. They made it to semi's but missed finals because of two time penalties (not Alex's). He's a super nice guy, amazing poet/performer, and the shower in his apartment was built for crack addicts.

You may have noticed that this is the 4th Tuesday of the month, which in Normal Slam talk means: THEMED SLAM. Yes, if you want to slam, you will only be allowed to do so if you bring a poem about... ROBOTS. It is the 2005 Robot Slam. Resistance is futile.

Much thanks to Mike McGee for rocking the feature on my b-day. It's always a delight watching that man perform.

Show will start at 7:30, come early to sign up for the open mic or Robot Slam, and please bring money for the $3 suggested donation. Without these donations we can't keep bringing brilliant performers to our bland, colorless community. The Coffeehouse is located on 114 E. Beaufort St. Normal, IL. The show will be hosted by myself (robbieq.net), Shanny Jean (hellokitty.com) and DJ Annie Fingers aka Spinderannie.

Check back on our website soon (http://www.poetryslam.pabn.org/) for show updates and schedules-- bookmark it even. This October will be a DOOZY.

Hello Normal Slam Live Journal Community. How are the six of you doing? Good? Sweet.

Well, just so you know, tonight, at the coffeehouse, in the downtown normal, there will be Mike McGee. Come see the Mike McGee. Bask in his splenderocity. Donate three bucks. Read some poetry- no need to be intimidated, clearly it doesn't have to be very good. Jk. Total Jk.

Seriously, come tonight. Don't ruin this day of days. 25 years ago TODAY, lilbanjo and myself were being shot out of our mothers' crotches. It's a rare thing sharing that kind of bond. Don't shit on that bond. Come to the show.

I'll give you a BJ if you come. No teeth, I swear.

7:30, bitches.

Hello Slam Community.

Team Normal got back yesterday from nationals at 7:30 AM. for individual memories, i refer you to our individual livejournals: shannyjeangroodwhomperchmarasocks and solstar81.

We finished 32nd overall, being the top placing team from Illinois, and beating such slam powerhouses as Austin, Denver, and Del Ray Beach. We even won our second bout against Denver, who was still amazing even though they were Gibson-less.

Team Normal is also featured in the new Poetry Anthology (bottom of the page) and DVD (also bottom of the page) from PSI. I (Robbie Q) too have a poem in that anthology, if that's an added selling point for you.

It bears mentioning that Normal Slam friend Anis Mojgani (mojgani) won the individual slam championship and was also the King of Spring Break. He stayed with us, and I can say that I've never shared a bed with a more talented person... at poetry...

We're all exhausted and voiceless, but next year at the normal slam will be just as rocking as last year, with all new themed slams and great new features from around north america.

Thank you, and good night.

Hello Normal Slam community.

Well after three GLORIOUS grudge matches against the other teams of Illinois, team Normal placed as such:

Palatine show: 2nd
Green Mill show: 2nd (by .5)
Mental Graf show: 2nd!

Tim Stafford made trophies for the show last night, meaning we came home with a tennis racket painted silver, with a plaque on it. It's currently hanging in my living room from a ceiling hook.

This Friday we will be having an all-ages, alcohol free show/party at the Coffeehouse in d-town Normal. The team will perform all of their group pieces and we will also be doing some solo stuff. Then when we're done, we'll hang out with you! It's $3 at the door, or $5 if you want to purchase a team Normal chap book. That's a bargain! You're saving $3! There's no reason not to do it! 9PM-midnite!

Thanks for the support, one and all. Hope to see the C-House packed this Friday!
